modrent

terms of service

1. The service

ModRent lets you browse Minecraft content, assemble and share packs, download pack installers, and host and join multiplayer worlds. An account is required for account features, hosting purchases, and launcher linking. Some features are experimental or available only to selected accounts. Swytch Labs BV ("we") operates ModRent. These terms apply to your use of the service, together with any purchase terms presented at checkout.

2. Minecraft and third-party content

NOT AN OFFICIAL MINECRAFT PRODUCT. NOT APPROVED BY OR ASSOCIATED WITH MOJANG OR MICROSOFT. Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang Synergies AB. You need a valid Minecraft licence and must comply with Minecraft's applicable terms. Our launcher currently prepares a profile and opens the official Minecraft Launcher, where you sign in and press Play. You sign in to ModRent with Microsoft through WorkOS; ModRent uses the returned authorisation to obtain your Minecraft profile. We do not ask for your Microsoft password.

Mods, resource packs, shaders, and other third-party files belong to their respective authors. Their licences apply separately. We embed files when redistribution is permitted. Otherwise, an installer may fetch them from their distribution channel; a zip may instead list files you need to obtain yourself. Attribution and licence information are available with the relevant content. Availability through ModRent is not an endorsement or a guarantee that a file is safe, compatible, or suitable for your pack.

3. Your account and Minecraft identity

You are responsible for keeping access to your account and devices secure. If you do not have a ModRent handle, we assign one based on your Minecraft name, with an alternative when that name is unavailable. Handles must not impersonate someone or contain unlawful or hateful material. A handle does not give you ownership of a name, a third-party account, or anyone else's work. We may reclaim or rename a handle that violates these terms.

Microsoft sign-in links your ModRent account to the Minecraft player identity returned by Minecraft's services. Hosted worlds use this identity and your membership to decide access. Browser approval authorises a launcher device. Only approve a request that you started. The launcher remembers its device authorisation so subsequent launches can start an authorised world without another browser sign-in. Do not share that credential.

ModRent may also be accessed through connected applications, including AI assistants and clients using Model Context Protocol (MCP). When you authorise a connected application, it can perform the actions available to it under your account and world permissions, such as creating worlds, changing settings, or managing world content. Those actions can affect other players and may change or remove saved data. Review what you authorise and the actions an application takes on your behalf. Do not share access credentials with applications you do not trust. Third-party applications and AI services operate under their own terms and privacy policies; ModRent does not control their responses or decisions.

One active Minecraft connection per ModRent account is supported. Contact hello@modrent.app if your account or device has been compromised, or if you need help with an identity link.

4. Packs, worlds, and access

You retain your rights in content you create. You give us permission to store, run, copy for delivery or backup, and display that content as needed to provide the features you use. Publishing or sharing a pack makes its recipe and associated public information available to others. Saved account content is private unless you share it or make it available through another feature.

Creating a hosted world makes its pinned client pack available to authorised world members, including when the original saved pack is private. World names, owner handles, and connection hostnames are not secrets; membership controls gameplay access. Owners and operators can access world files and logs, manage the running server, and exercise the privileges their roles provide. Owners can change roles; permitted members can invite others. Those actions can affect your access and your in-world progress.

Only upload or share content you have the rights to use. Do not place sensitive personal information in pack names, descriptions, world names, or invitations. Hosted saves and logs can contain player information and chat. World managers must respect other players' rights when accessing, downloading, or sharing those files.

Pack versions are pinned, but files may become unavailable or be removed following a takedown. Manual server uploads, where enabled, do not update the pinned client pack. Incompatible uploads can prevent players from joining. Keep your own copies of content and saves that matter to you.

5. Hosting and availability

Hosted worlds currently require working IPv6 connectivity. The launcher checks the world endpoint and waits for server readiness before opening the official launcher. A stopped world may take time to start. Empty worlds normally stop after five minutes. Installation, account approval, or network problems can delay or prevent a connection.

Resources are shared and managed to keep worlds operating. We do not promise dedicated CPU cores, a fixed memory allocation, uninterrupted availability, or compatibility with every mod. Automatic snapshots help with recovery but are limited by the configured retention and are not a guarantee against data loss.

6. Hosting time

Each player pays for their own share of hosting. Inviting someone or owning a world does not make you responsible for that player's usage. Creating or waking a world is not itself a charge against the owner's hosting time. Hosting usage is metered against the connected player's account.

Hosting charges are contributions toward the infrastructure and services used to host and operate Minecraft worlds. They are not payments to buy, license, or unlock Minecraft, mods, modpacks, or third-party features. Your hosting charges apply while you are connected, regardless of who owns the world. Third-party content licences still apply independently and may restrict how a world can be operated or accessed.

One hour of hosting time covers your share of hosting for one hour online. Unused hosting time remains on your account between sessions and worlds. Promotional hours are used before purchased hours when starting another hour. When you have no available hosting time, including granted reward time, the service can disconnect you after its warnings or admission grace period.

Prices, bundle sizes, and included taxes are shown before purchase. Stripe Managed Payments acts as merchant of record for hosting time purchases; the seller and applicable purchase terms are identified at checkout. ModRent records the order and adds hosting time after payment confirmation. Hosting time purchases are one-time purchases, not recurring subscriptions.

You have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of purchase. You can request a full refund within that period, no questions asked. You do not need to give a reason, and using hosting time does not remove this right. Email hello@modrent.app or contact the seller identified on your receipt. Include your order reference, if available, so we can identify the purchase. A request made within the 14-day period qualifies even if processing finishes later.

Hosting time is a service balance for use in ModRent, not a cash balance or an investment. We do not offer a cash-out facility apart from refunds. For payment errors or missing hosting time, contact hello@modrent.app. The cooling-off policy does not limit any other refund or remedy available under mandatory consumer law.

7. Rewards, referrals, and gifts

A world may generate a shared pool of resource rewards when its measured resource cost allows it. Pending world rewards belong to the world pool: they are not an individual balance, are not spendable, and cannot keep you connected after your available hosting time runs out. At a payout, every admitted, connected player receives the same amount of free hosting time, including players already using reward time. Departed players have no individual claim on pending world rewards.

Granted reward time belongs to your account and can be used in other worlds. You can choose rewards first (the default) or rewards last. Using reward time can reduce or stop further reward generation for everyone on that world. Reward generation and payout amounts are not guaranteed.

Signup and referral promotions follow the conditions shown in the service. A referral is attributed at signup; accepting an invitation alone does not earn an activation reward. Activation requires successful world creation or actually entering Minecraft. Do not create fake accounts, self-refer, or otherwise abuse promotions. We may investigate and correct rewards obtained through abuse.

You can gift available whole hours of hosting time to another account. Promotional hours transfer before purchased hours, and their type is preserved. You can't gift reward time. Check the recipient and amount before sending; completed gifts have no self-service undo. Contact us promptly about an error. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

8. Acceptable use and enforcement

Do not use ModRent to distribute malware or unlawful content, harass others, infringe their rights, bypass membership or billing controls, impersonate another player, or disrupt our infrastructure or other worlds. Do not send unsolicited or abusive invitations. Do not claim that your pack or world is endorsed by ModRent, Mojang, Microsoft, or the authors of its content.

We may restrict access, remove content, or suspend an account or world to address abuse, security incidents, legal obligations, or breaches of these terms. Where practical, we will explain the reason and how to contact us about it. Account closure does not remove statutory rights concerning paid services or refunds. Report security issues through security.txt.

9. Takedowns

If you hold rights in content and believe we are handling it unlawfully or contrary to its licence, email hello@modrent.app with the project or world details and the reason. We will review the request and, where appropriate, stop distributing the file, restrict access, delist the content, or correct its licence classification.

10. Service standards and liability

ModRent is under active development. Packs may fail, mods may conflict, and services may be interrupted. Free and experimental features are provided as available. This does not exclude the standards or remedies that mandatory law requires for paid digital services.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability for claims arising from free features is limited to €100, and we exclude liability for indirect loss or damage caused by third-party content. These exclusions do not override mandatory consumer rights or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for intent or gross negligence. Nothing here removes a statutory remedy for loss of data or failure to provide a paid service.

11. Closing your account and changes to the service

You can request account deletion by emailing hello@modrent.app. We will explain the effect on any worlds you own, access you manage, and remaining balances before completing the request. Some transaction and dispute records may need to be retained, as explained in our privacy policy.

We may change the service and these terms. We will give appropriate notice of material changes and request updated acceptance where required. Purchase-specific changes do not retrospectively change an order you already completed. Mandatory rights concerning changes to or termination of paid services remain in force.

12. Law and disputes

Dutch law governs these terms, without depriving consumers of mandatory protections available under the law that applies to them. Disputes may be brought before the competent court in Utrecht, Netherlands, unless mandatory law provides another competent court.
